Consumers set up a blockbuster holiday season at the Box Office
The Queen has some serious Instagram mojo. Her first post - at age 92 - landed yesterday, and took off like a rocket. May only be a matter of time before she launches her own IG account. (She used The Royal Family’s account to make the post, which showed a letter sent to her great-great-grandfather by Charles Babbage, a 19th-century computer science pioneer.)
“Today,” she wrote, “I had the pleasure of learning about children’s computer coding initiatives and it seems fitting to me that I publish this Instagram post, at the Science Museum which has long championed technology, innovation and inspired the next generation of inventors.”
Ron Lee, our Marketing Manager, ran some numbers for me; he pointed out that The Royal’s Family’s IG video post (above) showing the Queen (daintily and with great interest) sending her “letter” post has rapidly passed the Queen’s post in popularity, and is still rising. (In the video post, the Queen, standing aside Sir Ian Blatchford, the Science Museum’s Director, makes her send via an iPad perched on a glass podium, then enjoys some applause.)
Let’s check out the numbers…
Since the beginning of 2019, The Royal Family’s most popular IG post is this one, a very lovely photo, posted on February 26th:
It’s been liked roughly 391,000 times. The Queen’s “letter” post is currently at 248,370 likes. The video post just shot north of 250,000 likes, heading for “most popular” with no signs of slowing down. The video itself has currently been viewed 1,560,362 times.
According to journalist Ceylan Yeginsu, “The queen has long embraced technology, sending her first email in 1976 and introducing a website for the British monarchy in 1997. She posted her first tweet in 2014.”
